I just pruchased a pair of magnetic signs to advertise my Real Estate Business on the doors of my vehicle. I have black paint, just wondering if there’s any advice on the maintenance of these signs and the paint that’s on my car.

You may want to put something between the magnetic sign and your car. Tyvek comes to mind, and you can get it free from any FedEx mailing box! Good luck.

They can damage paint if you get dust or dirt particles between the magnet and the door. Even with clear coat the damage won’t be avoided. It should also be said that bras on the front of cars can cause just the same kind of damage.

if you leave them on, eventually the paint underneath will be a slightly different shade due to the sun fading the paint on the rest of the car.
take them off occasionally to wash and apply a good wax to the area where they are

I had a magnetic sign on my car for the longest time, and I couldnt get it off. Stuck to it. Luckily it was a crappy car.

I don’t think they’ll bother the paint if you alternate and drive your car without the signs in the sun as much as you o with them…the magnets will be less of an issue than shade…by the way, you are damn cute!

they can scratch your paint and you should take them off regularly so you can clean the back side of the sign and wash your car

whenever you wash your car, make sure to take the magnets off and then wash your car. if you don’t it will end up creating an outline of the magnet on your car. also, be careful about parking your car in the sunlight for long priods of time. the spot that gets covered by the magnet will end up darker than the rest of your car over a long period of time.

My dad advertises by using magnetic signs on his car and hasn’t had any problems. Just keep the area clean and take the magnets off every now and then. It shouldn’t hurt the car, but it wouldnt be a bad idea to put something between the magnet and the paint if you’re really worried. Better to be safe than pay hundreds of dollars for touch ups.

They won’t hurt the paint on your car…….. there is no special maintenance. only thing…after a while take them off and clean them and also your car where they were.

Yes they mess up your paint they will leave a mark on the paint where ever you put it. but if you keep moving it and dont leave in one spot for a long time you shouldent have a problem just becarful moving it so you dont scratch your paint.

Just tried to remove a Cub Scouts magnet from my Jeep washing it and the center is absolutely bonded to the paint. Picked a small piece off and it took the clear coat off with it. Some have suggested heating the magnet up before trying to remove it. I plan to try that tonight. Very unhappy right now!

@Brandon: Brandon, did you get the magnet off. I am having the same issue with one and it is stuck tight. I am trying to slowly pry it off bit by bit, but I am just waiting for the paint to pop up with the next pry.

Do NOT use car magnets, my car is at the body shop as I write this have the magnet ” leftovers” taken off. It takes off the clear coat, the magnets get like baked on. I even took them off every two weeks when I would wash my car! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
